No example suits the phrase of turning tables more than Luuk de Jong’s story at Barcelona. The Dutch striker found himself to be the villain in the dressing room for months after his loan move from Sevilla but has now made himself a hero at Barcelona.

Despite being a signing of Ronald Koeman, the tall striker struggled to make his mark under his former National Team manager’s command. Since the arrival of Xavi, however, his on-field performances have improved exponentially.

In his last three games, Luuk has scored three goals, including one against Barcelona’s eternal rivals Real Madrid in Saudi Arabia.

After his disappointing displays until last month, he was on the club’s departure list for January. Despite having made a case for himself at Barcelona, the player’s agents are still looking to find him a new club.

According to reports from Albert Roge of Esport3, the Blaugranas have identified Lucas Boye as a target if the Dutch striker leaves.

The Argentine forward currently plays for Elche in Spain. He has been a bright spot in his club’s dismal season, scoring six goals in his 16 league games. Additionally, he has created four big chances and also provided one assist.

In Elche’s recent win over Villareal, Boye came on for the final 24 minutes and scored the winner for his side.

Barcelona’s attacking crisis is further wounded by Martin Braithwaite’s injury, who has been sidelined for nearly four months now. Memphis Depay, too, was injured was nearly a month, returning against Granada last week.

Alvaro Morata, Rodrigo Moreno, and even Luis Suarez have been linked with a winter switch to Barça, but all those deals seem to be halted in their tracks.

The striker has also put in an excellent defensive shift for his side. He averages 1.3 tackles and a clearance per ninety minutes, proving his ability to trackback. If signed at a reasonable fee and for the right wages, he could be a valuable player for Xavi to have on the bench.
