Former Barcelona striker Gary Lineker has been full of praise for Marcus Rashford, who is set to join the Catalan giants on loan from Manchester United.

While the deal has not yet been officially announced, the English pundit has already voiced strong support for the move, even taking a subtle dig at Rashford’s parent club.

In an interview with Sky Sports (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Lineker described the transfer as a smart decision for both Rashford and Barcelona. “I suspect Marcus will do well,” Lineker said.

He went on to highlight a pattern that he believes supports his claim: “What has happened to players who’ve left Manchester United? They’ve done incredibly well elsewhere.

“So there’s something wrong with United right now, and those who’ve left are generally thriving,” he added.

More on Rashford

While Barcelona’s attacking line is already packed with stars, Lineker does not see this as an issue for Rashford. He believes the 27-year-old is arriving at just the right time.

“Rashford seems to be arriving in the right frame of mind; this is a great challenge for him,” Lineker added, stressing the importance of mentality at the elite level.

“He’s going to a place with brilliant players where it would be difficult to play regularly, but there are a lot of games.

“Even though Barça has three forwards like Raphinha, Lewandowski, and Lamine, you can’t expect to play every game from start to finish,” he noted.

He also hinted at the natural ageing of current key players, saying, “Lewandowski is past his prime, though what he’s doing at his age is still remarkable.”

That could potentially open more minutes for Rashford, especially in a system where rotation is essential.

Lineker concluded by reaffirming his belief in the move: “It’s a good signing for Barcelona. If Marcus arrives at his best, it’s incredible. He was fantastic at Aston Villa, and he can repeat that form at Barça. I hope that’s the case,” he concluded.
