Tensions are quietly rising at Barcelona after recent reports revealed that Marc-Andre ter Stegen has refused to sign a medical document that the club wants to send to La Liga.

The German goalkeeper’s decision could directly affect the registration of Joan Garcia, who is set to replace him temporarily if La Liga confirm that Ter Stegen’s injury is long-term.

The issue centres around a medical report prepared by the club, which must be submitted to La Liga’s Medical Commission.

If La Liga certifies the injury as long-term – defined as over four months – the club would then be allowed to register a replacement, with up to 80% of Ter Stegen’s wages used towards the new player’s registration.

However, Ter Stegen has so far refused to sign the document, leaving the process in limbo.

Barcelona hope to reach peaceful solution

It is to be noted that Initial internal discussions have included whether disciplinary action should be taken against Ter Stegen. While refusing to share medical information is not a common issue, the club views his decision as a serious matter.

That said, any disciplinary move would require legal backing, and Barça are treading cautiously.

Now, as reported by SPORT, a meeting between Ter Stegen and the club, potentially including his legal team, is scheduled for today or tomorrow.

Barcelona hope the German goalkeeper will attend and there, he will reconsider his decision by ultimately signing the report.

Barcelona are in shock

Barcelona plan to make it clear to Ter Stegen that this situation has never happened before in La Liga. Players with long-term injuries have always cooperated in such procedures.

The goalkeeper’s earlier public statement that he would be out for just three months complicates the club’s case, as it weakens their request to register a replacement.

Ultimately, Barça believe they can still submit the report without Ter Stegen’s signature if necessary, but are hoping it won’t come to that.
