In a season that has witnessed almost all Barcelona players step up and play a key role in the club’s success, Inaki Pena has been one of the very few unlucky ones.
The Spanish goalkeeper started out quite well, providing excellent chances in the absence of the injured Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
However, since the turn of the year, coach Hansi Flick decided to replace Pena in goal with Wojciech Szczesny.
The veteran goalkeeper hasn’t disappointed either and has been one of Barcelona’s top performers this year. This has led to Pena falling behind in the pecking order, with no real hopes of a comeback.
Keeping that in mind, a recent report from Fichajes claims that Inaki Pena is all set to leave Barcelona at the end of the season.

The Spaniard has realised that he is not a part of Flick’s plans and the situation is unlikely to get better anytime soon, especially with ter Stegen also closing in on his return.
Pena is not exactly sure about his next destination. But unless some drastic happens, everything suggests the goalkeeper will put an end to his chapter at Barcelona next summer.
Pena is expected to get offers from clubs that can offer him a more prominent role in the first team, but the player has yet to make any conclusive decision regarding his life after Barcelona.
That said, Pena’s exit will leave open space in Barcelona’s goalkeeping unit, but it appears the club are banking on the continuity of Szczesny.
Although the Pole has yet to make a decision on his renewal plans at Barça, the club have reportedly opened talks with the former Arsenal star, thus raising optimism over the player’s potential continuity in Catalonia.
