According to an update from Sergi de Juan in AS, it has come to light that although Frenkie de Jong’s contract renewal at Barcelona is not yet official, within the club, it is already viewed as a done deal.
The Dutch midfielder, whose current contract runs until 2026, is seen as a vital part of Hansi Flick’s plans, and the club has made his renewal a top priority ahead of the new season.
Barcelona have been clear in their stance that no key player with a contract expiring in 2026 should begin the season without committing to an extension and among them, De Jong’s case is seen as the most pressing.
Despite past tensions between the club and the player over salary adjustments and transfer rumours, relations have significantly improved, and all signs now point towards a positive outcome.

After Barça’s pre-season match against FC Seoul, De Jong himself admitted that while the renewal hasn’t been signed yet, it is on track.
“I haven’t renewed yet, because if I had, you would have seen it already. But I’m very happy at Barça. I know the club is with me, so I’m going to renew,” he stated.
The final hurdle appears to be formalities. De Jong recently parted ways with his long-time agent, Ali Dursun, and the club is waiting to be informed of his new representative before putting the agreement to paper.
Currently, De Jong is thriving at Barcelona. He has earned the full confidence of Hansi Flick, the admiration of President Joan Laporta, and feels central to the club’s ambitious sporting project.
With all sides aligned, it now seems only a matter of time before the renewal is officially signed and announced.
