Earlier today, FC Barcelona released an official statement revealing that superstar forward Robert Lewandowski will miss Sunday’s Joan Gamper Trophy match against Como.
The 36-year-old striker’s absence is due to a muscle discomfort in his left thigh, with the club statement not providing any details about his recovery period.
Building on that, though, journalist Xavi Hernandez Navarro reports that Lewandowski could be facing a period of two weeks out on the sidelines due to his muscle issue.
If so, it does cast doubts on his availability for Barcelona’s La Liga opener against RCD Mallorca in a little over a week.

Lewandowski finished last season as Barça’s top scorer, and his contributions have even helped him earn a nomination for the Ballon d’Or along with his teammates Lamine Yamal, Pedri, and Raphinha.
His absence, thus, could be a concerning blow for Hansi Flick & Co., who are already losing one of the leaders in the team in Inigo Martinez.
Ferran Torres is the obvious option to step in for the injured Lewandowski, but his availability for Sunday is not entirely guaranteed, as he too is recovering from muscle overload that led to him missing the friendly against Daegu FC.
If the Spaniard is also rendered unavailable, manager Hansi Flick could turn to new signing Marcus Rashford, who is more than capable of operating as a centre-forward.
