Barcelona secured their place in the quarter-finals of the UEFA Champions League after beating SL Benfica 3-1 (4-1 on aggregate) in the second leg of their Round of 16 clash earlier today.

A first-half blitzkrieg led by Raphina (two goals) and Lamine Yamal (one goal, one assist) was enough for the Catalans to make it through to the final eight of the competition, where they will face one of Borussia Dortmund or Lille.

€101.56 prize money in the bag already

Now, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s qualification for the Champions League quarter-finals has secured them an additional €12.5 million in prize money.

Their total earnings from the competition this season have now reached €101.56 million, surpassing the €100 million mark, with the potential for even greater rewards if they advance to the semi-finals or the final in Munich on May 31.

With the Champions League’s new format, UEFA has raised financial rewards for clubs. This season, the quarter-final qualification prize has risen from €10.6 million to €12.5 million.

If Barcelona defeats Borussia Dortmund or Lille in the next round, they will earn an additional €15 million for reaching the semi-finals – up from €12.5 million last season.

A spot in the final will now be worth €18.5 million (up from €15.5 million), while the champions will receive an extra €6.5 million (compared to €4.5 million in 2023/24).

The winner will also secure an additional €4 million for participating in the UEFA Super Cup in Udine on August 13 against the Europa League champions.

Breakdown of Barcelona’s earnings

Simply participating in the group stage secured Barcelona a fixed amount of €18.62 million. Their strong performance in the league phase, which included six victories worth €2.1 million each and a draw valued at €0.7 million, added another €13.3 million.

Additionally, UEFA distributed €665,000 from unallocated funds generated by drawn matches.

Finishing second in the league table earned Barça an extra €9.625 million, while progressing to the Round of 16 brought in €11 million, along with a €2 million bonus for finishing among the top 16 teams.

Their recent qualification for the quarter-finals has now added €12.5 million more to their total earnings.

Barcelona’s earnings also include the newly introduced ‘value pillar,’ which combines traditional market pool income (TV rights, sponsorships, and domestic and European results over the past five years) with historical rankings in European competitions.

From this, Barça have already secured €22.44 million, with the potential for further increases depending on their progress and that of other Spanish clubs (Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid).

Their ‘10-year coefficient’ earnings began at €11.41 million, trailing only Real Madrid (€12.45M), Bayern Munich (€12.10 million), and Manchester City (€11.76 million).
