According to Ferran Correas of SPORT, Barcelona and Dani Alves are close to finalising a short-term contract extension for the Brazilian, which could see him continue at Camp Nou until December 2022.

Alves returned to Barcelona in November last year, signing on as a free agent after his contract with Sao Paulo had run out. The 39-year-old had to wait until January to make his second debut for the club and has since been a regular in the side.

While he was not part of the UEFA Europa League squad, Alves has been pretty much a permanent fixture in other competitions, featuring in 16 games, contributing with a goal and four assists in the process.

Alves’ contract with Barça runs out at the end of the season. But the report claims that he requested the club to extend his stay at Camp Nou, at least until the end of the year as he is keen on making the Brazil squad for the FIFA World Cup and wants to land in Qatar in the best possible condition.

And, the report claims that an extension is practically agreed upon between Barcelona and Alves, with only the economic conditions left to be finalised.

As per the report, Alves had signed a short-term deal worth €100,000 per week when he rejoined the Blaugrana in November. There was also a clause which would see the right-back pocket €3 million if he played in 60% of Barça’s games since his arrival, which he has.

The report adds that the Brazilian international is hoping for slightly better terms on his new deal and it remains to be seen what terms the two parties agree on. But, a short-term renewal seems all set to be finalised for Dani Alves.
