Following Lionel Messi’s shock exit in the summer of 2021, the Barcelona No. 10 jersey has lost some of its lustre.
Ansu Fati was identified as the heir apparent and handed the shirt by the Blaugrana but constant injury woes and indifferent form has meant that the La Masia graduate has been unable to live up to the shirt’s glorious history.
Last season, when Fati was out on loan, the No. 10 shirt was left vacant and following his return this summer, the Spanish forward reclaimed the jersey, even though there was support for Lamine Yamal to be handed it.
However, as has become apparent now, Ansu Fati’s time at Barcelona is fast approaching its end, with the La Masia starlet no longer a part of manager Hansi Flick’s plans.
As such, Jota Jordi reports that Barcelona will hand the No. 10 shirt to Lamine Yamal from next season onwards.

As mentioned earlier, there were already calls for Lamine to take the No. 10 jersey at Barça at the start of this season itself.
However, the youngster opted to go with No. 19 out of respect for Ansu Fati, who continued as the Catalans’ No. 10.
But with the 22-year-old expected to be out of the club sooner rather than later, Yamal, who has now emerged as the face of the club as well as one of the best young attackers in the game, will be the club’s next No. 10 starting next season.
It is very much deserved for the La Masia gem who has seen his market value soar to €180 million while also winning the Golden Boy award and the Kopa Trophy for 2024.
