Barcelona grabbed two late goals to defeat Cádiz and secure their first win of the new LaLiga season.
Scorers: Pedri 82′, Torres 90+5′
Barcelona huffed and puffed for much of the game, unable to break down a stubborn Cádiz team who set up to defend at the new home of the champions.
Xavi’s men zipped the ball around, having 78% possession with Frenkie de Jong in particular showing off his laser-like range.
Despite that, Cádiz did have plenty of opportunities on the counter-attack but their final ball was always lacking.
Barça finally made the breakthrough with just eight minutes left and they had one of their new signings to thank for the assist.
After some neat play around the box, İlkay Gündoğan slipped a ball into Pedri who finished from close range.
The relief inside the Olympic Stadium (where Barça will play this season while the Nou Camp is renovated) was palpable.
The points were made safe late into added time when Ferran Torres ran through and slotted home after a flick on by Robert Lewandowski.
After last week’s draw against Getafe and strong starts from both Madrid sides, it was imperative Barça won tonight and they just about did.
