Frenkie de Jong continues to face an uncertain future at Barcelona, as he is being linked with a summer transfer to Manchester United.

The 25-year-old has been a permanent fixture in midfield in the three years that he has been at the club but has been unable to quite live up to the billing. At the same time, his massive wages are also proving to be an issue for Barça.

Indeed, the Blaugrana would owe him an enormous €88.58 million over the remainder of his contract duration in salary, loyalty bonuses and deferred payments. So, it should not come as a surprise that the club are open to the prospect of selling him this summer.

To that end, Relevo reports that Barcelona have been waiting to discuss de Jong’s future options with his representative Ali Dursun. However, the Dutch agent has been ‘absent’ to schedule meetings, leading to the club getting impatient and restless with him.

As per the report, de Jong has two possible options with regard to his future. The first option would be to accept Manchester United’s proposal and move to Old Trafford, while the alternative would be for him to accept a salary reduction and continue to Camp Nou.

Barça are already said to have an agreement with Manchester United over a deal worth €65 million plus €20 million in add-ons for de Jong.

However, president Joan Laporta indicated that the club would be willing to do everything in their power to keep him at Camp Nou. But it would seem like the Netherlands international would have to take a pay cut in order to do so.

But, recent reports indicate that de Jong might be unwilling to accept any more salary reductions, in which case, a transfer to Manchester United would be the likely outcome of this saga.
