Injuries have often stagnated the progress of FC Barcelona and even restricted them from achieving their objectives in the past. Recently, however, those issues continue to grow rather than cooling down. The international break itself is a great reason behind this, but not every Barcelona player has been injured because of it.

While there are recent cases such as those of Fermin Lopez, with the player having suffered a definite injury, and even that of Dani Olmo, a player who suffered a hard knock but managed to survive any kind of injury, the reality is that injuries can be extremely spontaneous as well.

Such was the case with the heartbreaking injury to Marc Bernal. The young 17-year-old Barcelona midfielder had gotten off to a great start in La Liga and had easily become one of Hansi Flick’s mainstays in the team thanks to his immense control over the ball and his surreal reading of the game despite his young age.

However, due to an unfortunate ACL injury against Rayo Vallecano that came out of nowhere, Bernal had to be sidelined. While this could have been his breakout season, the player will now have to wait before he can get that same opportunity again moving forward.

As pointed out by Barça Centre, however, the player has now posted an update after his surgery on Instagram and has paired it up with the caption:

One day less to enjoy what I love the most. Thank you for all the support.

A positive message from the player, it clearly highlights the fact that he will be missing out on a lot of action going forward but he remains grateful to the fans and the club for the support that he has been shown so far.

Beyond just being a truly unfortunate and untimely injury, it is also expected to keep Marc Bernal out of action for at least one year. At the moment, his return is now expected in September of next year and there is no telling what can or cannot happen between now and then.
