Barcelona have opened doors for their 21-year-old right-back Sergino Dest to leave. As reported by journalist Helena Condis, the Dutch-born American defender is out of the plan and it is purely a technical decision rather than being motivated by troubling finances.
Despite Barcelona’s effort to offload him in the summer, the player continues to stand by his words that he still has a lot to offer. The 21-year-old believes there is still time for him to win his manager’s trust regardless of the fact that he is no longer the team’s first-choice right-back.
For the team, however, there is a growing sense of belief that they will be able to sell him within the remaining days of the transfer market. It is believed that the team is expecting some late offers for the young defender towards the end of this month.
For the moment, he has not been called for Barça’s 2022-23 La Liga opener against Rayo Vallecano, leading to the suggestion that the team is, in fact, working on sanctioning the sale.
Dest’s situation at Barcelona has come down to such an extent mostly because he has failed to convince Xavi of his abilities. Both the management and the coaching staff believe the player has the potential, but he has not adapted well to the Spanish conditions.
The team wants him to mature both on and off the field and for that, they believe the best course of action would be to leave Barcelona.
For now, Barcelona have already identified a certain Hector Bellerin as Dest’s replacement and the fact that he can arrive on a free transfer this summer has uplifted Barça’s spirits even further.
Regardless of Barcelona’s position in the entire speculation, the player is seeming adamant about the fact that he wants to succeed wearing the royal blue of Blaugrana.
This means there are no active negotiations going on with the player and any potential suitor, as he wishes to stay within Barcelona’s rank for the foreseeable future.
