As per a report from Mundo Deportivo, it seems that full-back Joao Cancelo might have played his final match for Barcelona in their recent clash against Sevilla.

The victory of Barcelona with a score of 2-1 against Sevilla is expected to mark the farewell of various players from the team, including Cancelo, who had been on loan from Manchester City throughout the 2023/24 season.

While the club has already confirmed the departure of their coach Xavi, there has not been any official announcement regarding the departure of players yet.

Cancelo was inconsistent against Sevilla

Regarding Cancelo’s performance, it summarised his mixed season at Barcelona, showcasing flashes of brilliance alongside noticeable mistakes.

It is worth mentioning that the Portuguese provided an assist to Robert Lewandowski for the first goal and had two close attempts at scoring himself. His first shot hit the post, while the Sevilla goalkeeper saved his second attempt.

Now, earlier reports suggested that the change in management at Barcelona might lead to Cancelo returning to Manchester City and this rumour is expected to hold a significant value.

Barcelona love Cancelo but Flick does not

Cancelo holds a prominent position within the eyes of Barcelona management due to his technical skills and versatility. Moreover, he is eager to continue as well, as he knows Pep Guardiola does not have him in his plans.

Now, Barcelona had expressed their clear intention to extend Cancelo’s contract, understanding that he would have to take a pay cut and if Xavi had remained, it would have been highly probable.

However, with Flick taking over, his future at the club is uncertain once again.

Flick is well aware of Barcelona’s weaknesses in the full-back position, as both Cancelo and Alejandro Balde have left considerable gaps for opposing attackers to exploit.

As it stands, Barcelona seem resigned to the fact that Cancelo won’t continue with them, prompting them to focus on acquiring a suitable replacement during the upcoming summer transfer window, of course after consulting with Flick.
