Barcelona will have to make a number of sales this coming summer in order to balance their books and achieve Financial Fair Play so that they can sign and register new players before the start of the next season.

So, it becomes important that they get rid of players who do not belong in manager Xavi Hernandez’s plans. One such star who does not seem to have a future at Spotify Camp Nou is right-back Sergino Dest.

Currently away on loan at AC Milan, the USMNT star is likely to return to Barcelona in the summer as it does not appear like the Rossoneri will take up the €20 million purchase option on him.

But, according to SPORT, Dest does not have a shortage of suitors as, as many as four La Liga clubs are interested in signing him in the summer.

Atletico Madrid, Sevilla, Valencia, and Villarreal are all said to be interested in Dest’s services and would be willing to take a bet on him despite his lack of prominence in Milan this season.

Indeed, the former AFC Ajax man has played just 14 times in all competitions for the Italian champions this term and was even axed from their UEFA Champions League squad last month.

But, it seems like Dest’s stock has not fully plummeted in Spain, with a total of four teams open to the prospect of signing him next summer.

Apart from the aforementioned clubs, an unnamed MLS side has also shown interest in the right-back but it would not be a serious option for the player or Barcelona.

The Catalans would ideally look to recover the €20 million they invested in his signing back in 2020 and use those funds to strengthen the squad.

Barcelona remain intent on bringing in a new right-back, with Villarreal’s Juan Foyth still seen as a top target by the La Liga leaders. So, there could arise a possibility of using Dest as a makeweight in the operation for the Argentine’s signing come summer.

What is clear is that the USMNT ace is unlikely to continue in Italy and does not have a place in Xavi’s plans once he returns to Barcelona and a permanent exit is on the horizon in the upcoming transfer window.
