The Portuguese international is potentially staring at another soap opera in the summer, with Barcelona unsure of whether or not they can retain his services.

Felix’s future depends on new coach

A recent report from AS has offered an update on the future of Joao Felix, adding that the attacker continues to face an uncertain future at Barcelona.

The report does speculate that a definitive decision on Felix’s future could be made once Barcelona appoint the new coach.

Although Felix is the third-highest scorer for Barcelona this season, it is no secret that he is not liked by Xavi Hernandez, who had opposed his signing in the first place.

But with Xavi likely to leave Camp Nou, Felix’s fortunes could change if the new manager rates him highly. Everything suggests Hansi Flick could replace Xavi next season and it remains to be seen what exactly the German makes of Felix.

Euro 2024 to be a key factor

In any case, the upcoming European Championship could play a key factor as far as Joao Felix’s future is concerned.

If Barcelona are unable to make a decision on Felix’s future before Euro 2024 starts, the Catalans will be hoping that the forward endures a poor campaign, knowing a strong Euro 2024 campaign could skyrocket his valuation.

That is something Atletico Madrid will be hoping for, especially given the fact that coach Diego Simeone has no desire to continue with the Portuguese international this summer.
