After a first half that saw Barcelona enter the break with a narrow 3-2 lead over FC Seoul, the tide turned for Hansi Flick’s side earlier today after the second-string lineup took to the field after the break.

The game eventually ended with a 7-3 margin with Gavi, Andreas Christensen and Ferran Torres all getting on the scoresheet. The Spanish winger, in particular, served as a special protagonist on the night.

In just 45 minutes, Torres scored two goals off two shots on target and also racked up one key pass in the process, thus spearheading the second-half rout.

Torres’ thoughts

Speaking to the media after Barcelona’s thumping win over FC Seoul, Ferran Torres was asked for his quick thoughts on a couple of topics, including the club’s captaincy and ambitions this season.

He began by addressing the controversial topic of Marc-Andre Ter Stegen and his position as the first-team captain, which has been under a cloud of doubt in recent weeks.

“We haven’t talked about it, or at least I don’t know, but I think Ter Stegen, because of the years he’s spent here, will be the captain,” said Ferran (h/t Actualite Barça).

Ferran’s statement came after Frenkie de Jong spoke up in support of the German, backing him to stay on as captain.

The forward was then quizzed about Barcelona’s ambitions heading into the new season, especially after last season’s successful domestic run. Needless to say, he admitted that the team was motivated to win it all.

“The goal is always to win all the titles – the treble like last year and also the Champions League,” he said.

“The team is better than last season. Rashford is very strong. Joan is an excellent goalkeeper. He will give us security,” Ferran added.

Finally, he gave his two cents on the team’s preparation ahead of the new season and his personal targets he looked forward to.

“We are improving physically and technically. I have great enthusiasm for this season, and I want to be an important player.”

If the pre-season games so far are anything to go by, Hansi Flick sees the former Manchester City star as a backup striker this season, and Torres could thus see more action playing in a central position this term.

The dynamic proves to be an interesting one, for he has shown good understanding, movement and precision in the opening games of the pre-season tour.
