It is essential for FC Barcelona to kick things off in La Liga with positive results. After all, the league campaign will be long, and every single point holds a lot of value. Unfortunately for Hansi Flick, his side will have to work things out initially with a key player unavailable.

According to AS, Robert Lewandowski’s recent injury will see him be sidelined for around three weeks. This would, in turn, mean that the Polish ace would miss some crucial games and might not even return until after the international break in September.

As of right now, it seems clear enough that he will miss the Joan Gamper Trophy game against Como. Beyond that, it also seems likely that he will be unavailable for the La Liga opener for Barça against RCD Mallorca, and his participation in the subsequent games against Levante and Rayo Vallecano remains uncertain.

This leaves Hansi Flick in a difficult position, as he will now have to set up his team without his starting centre-forward. Fortunately, the German coach has a few solid options at Barça to help him potentially see out the first few games.

Both Ferran Torres and Marcus Rashford are capable of playing in that position, and the Spaniard already served as an alternative to Lewandowski last season. His goalscoring rate remains unquestionable, and he has the hunger to thrive when called upon.

Similarly, Dani Olmo is another name that Flick has utilised in various central attacking roles. Now, the final decision will be up to the Barça coach, but Lewandowski’s absence is definitely a big blow to the team.

Moreover, considering his age, this is a worrying sign. While Barça remains linked to new striker options for next summer, the fact of the matter for now is that Lewandowski’s injury is something that the club needs to keep a close eye on.
