It is no secret that Barcelona will enter the market for a new defender in the coming summer. The retirement of Gerard Pique has left a hole in the defensive unit, which needs to be filled at the end of the season.

Moreover, there is a layer of uncertainty over the future of Eric Garcia. The former Manchester City starlet has fallen out of favour under Xavi Hernandez and may be sacrificed in the coming summer.

According to Mundo Deportivo, one of the players Barcelona are interested in is Evan Ndicka. The Eintracht Frankfurt starlet has made a solid impression in the Bundesliga with his performances, notably becoming a mainstay in the Frankfurt backline.

The report suggests Barcelona have received positive reports over the development of Ndicka in the Bundesliga.

However, they are set to face stiff competition in the race to sign Ndicka. This is because clubs such as Liverpool, PSG, and Juventus are also interested in the services of the Eintracht Frankfurt starlet and may join the race to sign him in the coming summer.

Barcelona, for their part, want to avoid entering a bidding war, knowing their economic restrictions. Therefore, the club are more likely to target cost-effective alternatives and perhaps free agents that can help the team.

That is where Inigo Martinez comes into the fray. The Athletic Club veteran, who will become a free agent at the end of the season, has been strongly linked with a move to Camp Nou. Reports suggest he has already passed a medical while his wife is looking for apartments in Barcelona.

A move to Camp Nou, therefore, may only be a matter of time, as far as Inigo Martinez is concerned. Barcelona, though, may continue to keep an eye on the development of Ndicka, looking out for potential market opportunities.
