FC Barcelona face a pivotal summer transfer window as Deco and the recruitment team aim to refine their target list and equip Hansi Flick with a stronger, more competitive squad. With a solid foundation already in place, the club is just a few smart reinforcements away from truly elevating its roster for the seasons ahead.

To be fair, most of the players in Hansi Flick’s current team are likely to stay. The core of the team is intact and in good shape to keep competing at the highest level for years to come. The squad is two to three reinforcements away from looking even more stronger.

Goalkeeping concerns at Barcelona

One position that has not inspired much confidence at Barcelona for quite some time now is the goalkeeping department. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen’s form hasn’t inspired much confidence and Inaki Pena looks set to be on his way out.

🚨 Barcelona are among several clubs keen on signing Joan García after his excellent season at Espanyol. There’s concrete interest as @ffpolo reports, he’s on the shortlist but more clubs are keen on the goalkeeper.Premier League and Bundesliga clubs are also in the race. 👀 pic.twitter.com/l8weC50Xdw— Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) May 25, 2025

Earlier today, it emerged that Barcelona had joined the race to sign impressive Espanyol shot-stopper Joan Garcia. The Spaniard has almost single-handedly kept his team in La Liga amid what was an intense relegation battle.

Garcia is the perfect modern-day shot-stopper and is equally good at saving shots as he is at venturing outside his area and sweeping up the space behind a high line. His passing is quite decent too and he will be an ideal fit for Barcelona.

Interest plenty

Now, as per Mundo Deportivo, 5 other clubs across Europe are interested in signing the 24-year-old Spaniard apart from Barcelona. The interest comes from three major countries – England, Germany and Italy.

In England, Arsenal are the biggest club interested in Joan Garcia but he would have to compete for the starting role with David Raya at the Emirates. Aston Villa are another club in the mix while Andoni Iraola’s Bournemouth are the latest to join the race.

In Germany, Bayer Leverkusen, who are undergoing an overhaul, are one of the clubs interested in Joan while recent Serie A winners Napoli are also interested in signing the player. Thus, it is safe to say that there is no shortage of suitors for the Spaniard.

However, signing Joan Garcia presents a unique challenge due to his ties with local rivals Espanyol. Making the leap across the Catalan divide would be a bold move for the 24-year-old. Whether Garcia is ready to take that step remains to be seen, but if he does, it could prove to be a defining moment in Barcelona’s summer strategy.
