Barcelona are reportedly interested in acquiring a young, new back-up goalkeeper for Marc Andre ter Stegen and they may look to Colombia for a cut-rate option.

According to AS, Barcelona have been tracking Venezuelan national team goalkeeper Wuilker Fariñez, currently with Colombian side Millonarios, as the successor to Jasper Cillessen.

Barcelona are said to have been very impressed by the 21-year-old’s performance during Venezuela’s stunning 3-1 win over Lionel Messi and Argentina at the Wanda Metropolitano back in March.

According to the publication, Fariñez would be available for a minimum of €5m, though Millonarios are likely to try to squeeze as much money out of the Catalan side as possible given their stature.

As expected, Barcelona are not the only side interested in the 14-time international’s services. Argentine giants Boca Juniors and River Plate are also said to be in the running, as well as Tigres of Mexico.

Despite the appeal of a low price tag, Barcelona would have to sacrifice one of their non-EU slots, which are currently occupied by Malcom, Arturo Vidal, and Arthur.

Jasper Cillessen arrived from Ajax in 2016 for €13m and, despite earning 48 caps for the Dutch national team, has made just 29 appearances for the Blaugrana.
