In a significant development for Barcelona, it has emerged through AS that Viktor Gyokeres’ agent has made it clear to Premier League clubs that the Swedish striker is fully committed to finishing the season with Sporting CP.

This revelation comes as a boost for the Catalan giants, who have been closely monitoring the 26-year-old forward as a potential summer signing.

Gyokeres continues to impress with his performances in Portugal. The new year has started the same way the last one ended for the striker – with goals.

In the first match of the Portuguese league after the winter break, he delivered a standout performance by scoring a hat-trick.

However, despite his efforts, Sporting CP was unable to secure a victory, as their match against Guimaraes ended in a dramatic 4-4 draw.

In any way, Gyokeres’ consistent goal-scoring form has kept him in the spotlight, especially with the January transfer window now open.

Not moving in January

Unsurprisingly, several teams are keeping tabs on the Swedish international. Among his admirers is his former coach, Ruben Amorim, now managing Manchester United.

However, any potential move during the winter transfer window has been ruled out, as confirmed by Gyokeres’ agent.

Hasan Cetinkaya, the striker’s representative, has revealed that the Swede is fully focused on completing the current campaign with Sporting CP.

Boost for Barcelona

For Barcelona, this decision offers a sense of relief and an opportunity to plan ahead. The club has been tracking Gyokeres for a potential summer move, viewing him as a long-term solution to their attacking needs.

Interestingly, now that the 1:1 rule has been reinstated, the club can actually think of signing the forward. The management is of the idea that if the situation betters, they will have a chance of going for the Swede this summer.

However, the club may need to offload Robert Lewandowski before they can make room for Gyokeres as the two top frontmen simply cannot coexist together.

For now, though, everything points to the fact that Lewandowski will stay for another season and if that is confirmed, Barcelona can bid adieu to Gyokeres.
