Neymar’s name has once again been linked with a potential return to Barcelona, but his comeback remains a complicated matter.

This is because according to SPORT, for any move to materialise, club president Joan Laporta has set two essential conditions—he must arrive on a free transfer, and he must improve his physical condition.

The Brazilian forward, who remains eager to wear the Barcelona shirt again, is reportedly working on getting back into peak shape while spending time in Brazil.

His goal is to return to European football by the summer, and if that opportunity arises, Barcelona would be his preferred destination. However, the decision is far from straightforward, as key figures at the club have differing opinions on the matter.

Hansi Flick and players are divided

Manager Hansi Flick had already dismissed the idea of signing Neymar last summer, as he did not see the forward as a good fit for his plans.

Whether his stance has changed remains uncertain, but for now, there is no indication that the German coach is in favour of the move.

From a sporting perspective, Flick does not seem to believe Neymar’s addition would strengthen the team.

On the other hand, some Barcelona players appear to have a different perspective. Lamine Yamal, who has long admired Neymar, would be thrilled to share the pitch with him.

Meanwhile, Raphinha, who enjoys a close friendship with the Brazilian, would also welcome his arrival. From the dressing room’s point of view, the idea of Neymar’s return is certainly an exciting one.

What next? No one knows

Financially, there is little room for negotiation. Barcelona’s delicate economic situation means that the club is unwilling to pay any transfer fee for the 33-year-old.

If Neymar is to make a return, it would only be under the condition that he arrives as a free agent.

While Neymar continues to dream of a second stint at Barcelona, the reality is that several obstacles stand in the way.

His fitness, the club’s financial limitations, and Flick’s stance all play a major role in determining whether his return will ever become a possibility.
