Ahead of the release of the Uefa Team of the Year this week, Uefa have revealed their ‘Ultimate’ version of the team.
The XI features the players in each position who have been selected to the Uefa Team of the Year the most times.
Unsurprisingly, Barcelona are rather dominant.
The Catalans have been a force in the Champions League in the past decade or so, winning the competition four times since 2006.
They are rewarded with six players in Uefa’s ultimate team, including three who are still at the club.
Carles Puyol, Gerard Piqué, Xavi, Andrés Iniesta, Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi all feature.
Messi has the most inclusions of any Barcelona player, having been named to the Uefa Team of the Year eight times, and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him included a few more times before he hangs up his boots.
Barcelona face Juventus in this season’s edition of the Champions League on Wednesday.
