FC Barcelona are in the midst of a flurry of activity in the final stretch of the season. With the crucial renewal of Lamine Yamal finalised and Ansu Fati’s departure nearly secured, the Catalans have now shifted focus to potential reinforcements for next season.

As reported by SPORT, Barcelona sporting director Deco met with Marcus Rashford’s agent at a hotel in the Catalan capital this morning to discuss the possible arrival of the Manchester United winger.

The Manchester United forward was Barça’s top target in January, but a loan deal was ultimately ruled out due to Financial Fair Play constraints.

While Luis Diaz remains the club’s dream signing for the 2025/26 campaign, the complexity of that operation has led Barça to explore more realistic, lower-cost alternatives – with Rashford now seen as one of the most viable options.

The Englishman, who is eager to wear the Blaugrana shirt, fits the club’s footballing profile. But more importantly, he represents an opportunity to reinforce the squad without significant financial outlay.

While he is not viewed as a long-term structural signing, his potential loan, very likely with a purchase option, is considered a market opportunity.

Manchester United would prefer a permanent sale, valuing Rashford at around €48 million.

Barcelona are aware that Rashford’s situation poses a challenge for United, and if the forward rejects other offers, the Premier League club may have no choice but to accept a loan arrangement, though it will require patience.

Wednesday’s meeting served to exchange views and confirm that both parties are open to moving forward. Rashford is prepared to wait and apply pressure, but only if the interest from Barça is genuine, which, given the club’s financial restrictions, appears to be the case.

Barcelona needs time to assess its room for manoeuvre under the salary cap, but Rashford already has the ‘OK’ from manager Hansi Flick.

The forward had strong hopes in January, which were not fulfilled. Now it remains to be seen whether this summer his wait will be rewarded.
