Barcelona have recently announced the renewal of defensive prodigy, who has signed a new contract with the club that will run until until 2029.

As per the recent norm, Barcelona, in their statement, did not specify the exact value of the release clause that has been embedded in Cubarsi’s new contract.

One would have expected that Cubarsi’s release clause might have been increased to €1 billion, which is the normal value for any young prodigy at Barça such as Gavi, Pedri and Lamine Yamal.

What is Cubarsi’s new release clause?

But as revealed by SPORT, it appears Cubarsi has failed to get into the €1 billion club despite signing a fresh deal with the club.

As per the report, the value of Cubarsi’s release clause stands at €500 million, meaning the value has essentially remained the same compared to his previous contract.

Although this is merely half of Gavi, Pedri or Yamal’s gigantic €1 billion release clauses, the club officials believe this figure is more than sufficient to deter potential suitors.

Cubarsi, for his part, is determined to continue at Barcelona and is not thinking about a move away from Camp Nou anytime soon.

Nevertheless, Cubarsi’s renewal marks yet another important step for Barcelona in their bid to secure the future of all their key players.

In recent times, the club have already announced new deals for Gerard Martin, Pedri, Gavi, Ronald Araujo and Fermin Lopez, among others.

Barcelona’s next objective will be to renew the contract of Frenkie de Jong, who appears to have finally found his footing under Hansi Flick.

However, renewing the contract of de Jong could be tricky considering the player’s fractured relationship with the hierarchy as well as his exorbitant salary at the club.
