Barcelona defender Umtiti confirms emotional Laporta meeting: I cried
Barcelona defender Samuel Umtiti has confirmed he was in tears in an August meeting with president Joan Laporta.
Umtiti was pleading with Laporta not to sell him as he sought one last chance to prove himself.
He confirmed to AS: "I cried when I spoke with the president; I spoke to him with my heart. The truth is that the conversation was very important to me. I needed to speak and say things clearly; let him know that I'm fine, that I want to help the team.
"The whistles in the Gamper hurt me; I never thought that would happen. I love Barça, but it seems that it is useless. Yes, it is just the word. I have felt alone. Thank goodness that now I am strong.
"I think I have not made mistakes; I visited three or four doctors who told me that I should not have surgery and the club told me: 'ok'.
"I know we are six centrals, I know it is difficult for me but I am stubborn; I want to help the team and I am waiting for an opportunity to show that I am fine, but this is getting a bit hard."
