According to a report by Catalan publication SPORT, Barcelona defender Sergino Dest has turned down three big-money offers from major clubs in Europe to stay at Camp Nou.

The USMNT international arrived at Barcelona only last summer from AFC Ajax, signing a five-year contract. However, his debut campaign with the Catalan giants was a bit of a hit and miss.

While there were plenty of glimpses of his potential, the full-back also had some concerning moments, as he featured 41 times across all competitions, scoring three goals and registering a solitary assist.

With Emerson Royal arriving at Barcelona this summer and the Catalans’ well-known financial problems, it seems like clubs tried to capitalise on the situation by trying to poach Dest away from the club.

Indeed, as per the report, the 20-year-old was a subject of transfer interest from Premier League’s faltering giants Arsenal, Bundesliga bridesmaids Borussia Dortmund and Ligue 1 bigwigs AS Monaco. All three clubs are said to have offered terms more lucrative than what he makes at Barcelona.

However, each of Arsenal, Dortmund and Monaco have received the same offer from Dest: ‘Thanks, but no.’

The defender has no intentions of leaving Barcelona, while the club have also reaffirmed their faith in him and assuaged any fears of him being sold amidst the current financial situation. Manager Ronald Koeman is also said to have great belief in the youngster to deliver on his promise.

The added competition from Emerson should only spur the USMNT international to improve on his debut season at Camp Nou. In addition, Koeman is also looking at the 20-year-old as a potential option for the left-back slot as well as the Blaugrana have no senior backup for Jordi Alba following the departure of Junior Firpo to Leeds United.

There may be a number of exits from Barcelona this summer, but safe to say Dest is unlikely to be one among them.
