Barcelona have decided that young Senegalese sensation Mikayil Faye is not part of Hansi Flick’s plans for the coming season, and it looks as if he will be loaned out or sold. With an exit on the horizon in the next two weeks, he has not been registered as a first-team player.
According to Sport, Faye missed training on Friday morning, and the cause is likely due to him being on the verge of moving on. Rennes and Besiktas have submitted offers of €10m, with the French side including a 25% sell-on clause, but neither was met with an immediate green light from Barcelona at any rate.
Flick tried Faye out as a left-back in preseason, but with that not working, and a plethora of central defenders to choose from, Barcelona have decided a move makes the most sense. The Catalan daily say that Barcelona will allow him to choose his destination as long as there is a reasonable transfer fee and a buyback option included in the deal. Rennes are well-placed, as they have told Faye he will be a starter.
Gerard Romero has contradicted information that his health has nothing to do with his absence, conveying that he has a viral infection. He does note that his future is more ‘in the air’ than ever though. Meanwhile Fabrizio Romano notes that Rennes remain in open talks for Faye, with a decision expected soon. MD also cite Rennes as the side pushing hardest for a deal, while also denying interest from Besiktas.
Barcelona signed Faye for just €2m last summer, and so it appears the operation will be a profitable one no matter what. However early estimates of a price tag were closer to €20m, and it seems their financial situation will prevent them from holding out for more. The 20-year-old scored on his Senegal debut in March, and looks an interesting prospect.
