Barcelona Defender Is On The Radar Of Sevilla: Should Xavi Let Him Go? | OneFootball

In a recent report, Marca mentioned that Barcelona defender Clement Lenglet is on the radar of Sevilla this summer. It has been stated that the Andalusian outfit are hoping to sign the French centre-back on loan from the Catalan club this month.

Lenglet’s Impressive Loan Spell At Tottenham

Lenglet had a positive loan spell at Tottenham Hotspur last season when he put in a series of impressive displays for them on the defensive third of the field. The 28-year-old scored one goal and earned two assists in 35 matches for Spurs in the previous campaign in all competitions.

The France international was a solid presence at the back and did well to average 1.5 tackles, 0.7 interceptions and 2.6 clearances per 90 minutes in the Premier League. He even distributed possession relatively well from inside his half after completing 87.5% of his attempted passes in the top tier of English football (stats via whoscored).

Lenglet is under contract at his parent club Barcelona until 2026. Hence, Xavi is under no immediate pressure to cash in on him this summer. However, the Catalan club can definitely benefit from getting his name off their wage bill before the end of this month.

Should Barcelona Boss Xavi Let Lenglet Go This Month?

Lenglet can get stuck in with a few solid tackles to make life difficult for the opposition attackers. He can time his challenges well to earn possession back for his team inside his half.

The French talent doesn’t mind clearing the danger when needed and is proficient at playing his way out from the back. Standing at 1.86, he can use his robust frame to win a few aerial duels for his team.

However, Lenglet has struggled to make himself a regular starter at the Nou Camp this season. Thus, it makes sense for the player to seal a loan move in search of more first-team football this season. At 28, Lenglet is playing in his prime but needs a change of scenery to get his career back on track.

Barcelona boss Xavi doesn’t have the luxury to offer him regular playing time at the Catalan club. Thus, it is only fair to Lenglet if Barca let him go before the end of this summer transfer window.
