Barcelona could let go of Frenkie de Jong to aid the purchase of Bernando Silva with Fabrizio Romano claiming that the possibility of the latter depends on the former.
Xavi Hernandez’s men are big admirers of Silva but Romano has stated that the Catalans’ pursuit of the Portuguese midfielder largely hinges on the sale of de Jong.
“He [Silva] is the obsession of Xavi Hernandez; Xavi is in love with this player,” the Italian reporter said on his youtube channel.
“Bernardo wanted to leave the club [Manchester City] last summer but Pep was able to change his mind – His season has been fantastic but now we will see what happens as Bernardo is open on his future.
“Jorge Mendes knows very well that Bernado is open to joining Barcelona and Xavi is pushing but this deal will go through only if Frenkie de Jong will be sold to Manchester United.
“There are no direct conversations between Barcelona and Man City for Frenkie de Jong but direct conversations as we know between Barcelona and Manchester United.
“So if Frenkie will go to Manchester United, keep an eye on Bernardo Silva because Barcelona want a top midfielder and Xavi loves Bernardo.
Pep Guardiola’s men have reportedly set Bernardo’s asking price at €85million to €95million which is in the same region as what Barcelona are demanding for Frenkie de Jong.
United have already had an initial €60m bid for de Jong turned but The Red Devils are currently contemplating making an improved offer for the Dutchman this week as Erik ten Hag is keen to reunite with the former Ajax midfielder.
The possibility of this potential merry-go-round between Barcelona and the two Manchester clubs will become clearer in the coming weeks as the Premier League transfer window enters its tipping point.
