Barcelona manager Xavi has not repeated any lineup this season, but everything indicates that the 43-year-old will field the same XI against Atletico Madrid as he did against FC Porto in the UEFA Champions League, reports Sergi Capdevila via SPORT.

Last Tuesday, Xavi was quite satisfied with his team’s performance against Porto. Following a series of disappointing games, including matches against Rayo Vallecano, Alaves at home, Shakhtar Donetsk, and Real Sociedad, he now recognizes the significance of securing a convincing victory against Atletico Madrid at home.

As such, this win would mark a crucial step in solidifying the team’s place in league standing.

Xavi satisfied with second-half performance

Xavi was particularly impressed with his team’s performance in the second half against Porto.

The team abided by the plan, and the flow was amazing., although the manager pointed out the need to reestablish a connection with Robert Lewandowski, who has seen minimal involvement in recent matches.

The Poland international has been receiving limited service this season, and the primary goal is to actively involve him once more.

What’s the next step?

Now, it remains to be seen if Xavi will bet on the same XI, especially against Atletico Madrid, that he fielded against Porto, but all signs point towards such a move.

The only uncertainty revolves around Marc-Andre ter Stegen, as the German goalkeeper has been absent from the last two games due to back issues. The veteran goalkeeper’s recovery is progressing slowly, and there is a reluctance to rush regarding his potential return.

Additionally, Inaki Pena’s recent performance is providing a sense of relief that Ter Stegen can be eased into the team.

As such, if nothing changes, Barcelona could start with Pena in goal, protected by the backline of Ronald Araujo, Jules Kounde, Inigo Martinez, and Joao Cancelo, with no Alejandro Balde in the team.

Frenkie de Jong, Pedri, and Ilkay Gundogan would start in midfield with Raphinha, Lewandowski, and Joao Felix in attack.
