La Liga giants Barcelona have on Wednesday been tipped to launch a move for a member of the defensive ranks at Almería.

The info comes courtesy of Relevo, and points towards Marc Pubill as the player in question.

Pubill, for his part, is fresh off something of a whirlwind couple of months on both club and international front.

The 21-year-old played a starring role for Spain en route to the country’s gold medal at the Paris Olympics, shining from his berth at right-back.

In the midst of as much, it also appeared as though Pubill was bound for a change of scene at club level, after Europa League champions Atalanta struck a deal for his signature.

With the youngster in Bergamo and already posing for photos in Atalanta’s colours, however, the transfer at the last minute collapsed.

And, as alluded to above, as much appears to have opened the door for another big-name suitor to emerge for Pubill’s signature.

As per a report from Relevo:

‘The right-back from Almería, born in Terrassa 21 years ago and a brand new Olympic gold medalist, could end up signing for Barça in this final stretch of the market.’

Barca, still on the lookout for reinforcements at right-back amid frustration in their efforts to bring back João Cancelo, are understood to be giving genuine consideration to a move for Pubill, instead.

The operation, as things stand, is labelled as ‘alive’ rather than ‘hot’, with it also noted that the stopper himself would be delighted to take his talents to the Camp Nou.

A situation to keep an eye on over the final couple of weeks of the Spanish transfer window…
