Vitor Roque’s future at Barcelona is currently under blurry lights as he has failed to fit into Xavi’s tactical setup and is staring at the possibility of being loaned out in the summer.

The Brazilian can be seen as having one step out of the club as they are already planning for next season without really accounting for his presence in the first team.

Robert Lewandowski will be the primary striker and could be backed up by Ferran Torres, but Marc Guiu’s promotion to the main squad is also seen as a strong possibility, Mundo Deportivo has reported.

Guiu has won over Barcelona with an all-round role this season

Marc Guiu has featured in eight competitions and for three Barcelona teams across different ranks this campaign.

The forward has largely been utilised by the Juvenil A and Barça Atletic setups and was also a member of Spain’s squad in the FIFA U17 World Cup in Indonesia a few months back.

The 18-year-old’s eye for goal has seen him capture the attention of Xavi as well.

Guiu has made five appearances for the senior team this season and has scored twice already, including once in the Champions League. Interestingly, the coach picked him to start over Vitor Roque when Barcelona faced Mallorca earlier in the campaign.

The 18-year-old’s last appearance under Xavi came in March but he has made the matchday squad several times, which is a further testimony of the manager’s confidence in him.

Barcelona are actively discussing a renewal with Guiu

Guiu’s contract at Barcelona ends in June 2025, but the Catalans have already made a statement of intent to retain him by opening talks with the teenager’s representatives.

The board sees the potential for him to be a long-term option, especially with characteristics like physical power, speed, heading and finishing standing out to good measure.

Both parties are still in negotiations, but there is gradual progress being made with a contract renewal expected to be just a matter of time.

The striker being handed a berth in the first-team next season should make him commit to a new contract beyond any reasonable doubt.
