There is never a shortage of drama at FC Barcelona. Just a few weeks ago, Joan Laporta and Xavi confirmed in a joint press conference that the latter would continue as manager next season.

However, last week, things changed as Laporta was upset by some of the comments made by the manager, leading to speculations that the club legend will be sacked.

In fact, things appear to be moving quite swiftly, with Hansi Flick supposedly in talks to succeed Xavi as the next head coach of Barça.

But now, a fresh report from MARCA suggests that there might be yet another plot twist in the whole Xavi-Laorta drama.

Laporta could continue with Xavi

Indeed, as per the report, some people in Barcelona president Joan Laporta’s close circles suspect that he might end up retaining the services of Xavi as manager beyond this season.

The Barça chief was believed to have made up his mind over Xavi’s sacking, with reports suggesting that there was a minimal chance of the former midfielder continuing.

However, some of his closest collaborators now suspect that the club president might backtrack and opt to keep hold of the 44-year-old.

It must be remembered that Xavi’s contract runs until 2025 and if he is sacked, Barça would owe him and his staff compensation for the remaining year of the deal, which might be a burden in the current financial state.

Furthermore, some fans appeared to turn on Laporta this past weekend, chanting against him during the Rayo Vallecano clash.

These factors may influence Laporta into reconsidering his decision. A final call will be made next week, when a meeting will take place between Xavi and the president and other stakeholders.

At the moment, no one is able to say what will happen to the coach after Sunday.
