With the news that Ousmane Dembélé could miss up to six months, Barcelona are on the hunt for a new attacking option outside the transfer window.
There had been previous reports that Barcelona were looking at Getafe’s Ángel Rodríguez and Alavés’ Lucas Pérez as affordable options and, according to Sport, Rodríguez has emerged as the favourite.
If Barcelona gets approval from RFEF Medical Court, they could activate the 32-year-old’s €10m release clause and sign him next week once they verify the actual extent of Dembélé’s injury.
It’s been reported that some of Rodríguez’ Getafe team-mates have already accepted that the player will be leaving the club.
Earlier in the week, Rodríguez said he would ‘think about’ signing with the Catalans if they decide to come calling.
“What I know is what has been published in the press. There is nothing at the moment. I’m calm and focused on Getafe.
“I’m leaving everything on the pitch for this club, and as things stand, there is nothing.
“When the news is about a huge club like Barcelona, the repercussions are bigger, but since they are just rumours, I’m very calm.
“If they contacted me, I would have time to think about things. I have been here after many transfer windows with Getafe, and there is always talk that I will leave.
“That means I’m doing things well.”
Ángel Rodríguez has been included in Getafe’s squad to face Barcelona for Saturday’s match. The player has scored 13 goals in 28 games in all competitions this season.
