Barcelona are ready to step up their pursuit of a new right-back as we head to the final phase of the ongoing summer transfer window.

With Sergino Dest struggling to impress Xavi Hernandez, it appears the American international is set to leave Camp Nou in the summer, paving the way for the club to go after a new option in the market.

Barça received a setback in the pursuit of Cesar Azpilicueta earlier in the summer. But they have targeted many alternatives, including Juan Foyth.

The Villarreal starlet has even emerged as the top option for Xavi as he looks to find a replacement for Dest. And according to Miguel Rico, the club have already hatched a plan to sign the Argentine defender by the end of the month.

The respected Spanish journalist suggests Barcelona are exploring the possibility of a swap deal with Villarreal involving Juan Foyth and Alejandro Balde.

The young left-back is currently regarded as one of the most talented defenders to come out of the youth academy in recent years. He was even nominated for the 2022 Golden Boy award by Tuttosport, along with four of his Barcelona teammates.

However, with Barça tipped to sign a more experienced left-back, they are prepared to use Balde as a makeweight in the deal to sign Foyth. They believe the inclusion of the talented left-back could go a long way in lowering the valuation of the Argentine defender, whose contract at Villarreal does not expire until 2026.

Barcelona have not yet proposed any official offers. But they are considering the swap deal as it could make sense for all parties involved, although it is debatable whether the sale of Foyth could be beneficial for the Yellow Submarines, especially after a poor season in La Liga.
