A recent report from ESPN has offered an update on Barcelona’s transfer activity on deadline day. The club are looking to strengthen the squad on the final day of the market by signing at least top quality player.

The Financial Fair Play laws have made life difficult for Barcelona, with the club given a very limited margin to conduct operations with other clubs over a transfer.

This has led Barça to largely look for loan signings and according to ESPN, they are already looking at two options on this transfer deadline day.

While the club’s pursuit of Sofyan Amrabat has been well documented, it appears the Catalans are also keeping an eye on Anthony Elanga. The Manchester United starlet has emerged as a last-minute option for Barça, as they look to shore up their options.

A left winger by trade, Elanga has fallen out of favour at Old Trafford under the leadership of Erik ten Hag. Despite making a professional breakthrough last season, the youngster has featured in less than 400 minutes of league football this term.

It appears the young Swede has fallen behind the likes of Antony and Marcus Rashford in the pecking order. As such, Manchester United are open to offloading the player on the transfer deadline day.

Barcelona are monitoring the situation and though they are yet to come up with an official bid, Elanga is increasingly emerging as a potential option for the club. The 20-year-old, after all, could ideally fit into Xavi Hernandez’s plan of signing a new explosive winger.

Elanga’s presence in the team could help Barcelona replace Memphis Depay and more importantly, have a short-term solution to replace the injured Ousmane Dembele.

However, with Barça’s hands tied economically by the FFP rules, it remains to be seen whether or not they can woo Manchester United by tabling a lucrative loan offer for Elanga in this last day of the market.
