Barcelona president Joan Laporta has on Tuesday confirmed the club’s plans for on-loan pair João Félix & João Cancelo.
Both frontman Félix and defender Cancelo, of course, sealed temporary moves to Catalunya last summer.
And the pair went on to play prominent roles in the Blaugrana’s XI, with Cancelo, in particular, having established himself as a mainstay in the club’s backline.
For some time now, however, it has remained unclear just what Barcelona’s plans for the Portuguese duo entail.
With Xavi having been dismissed, and Hansi Flick brought in as his replacement, the German has been left with a decision to make regarding whether or not he would like to have either Félix or Cancelo at his disposal for next season.
All of a Barca persuasion, in turn, will no doubt be interested to hear that the club’s new boss has in fact already made this call.
Speaking as part of ‘The President’s Podcast’ on Barça One, as cited by Mundo Deportivo, on Tuesday, Blaugrana president Joan Laporta was inevitably asked for an update on the futures of the club’s two loan stars.
And the Spanish patron went on to confirm that sporting director Deco has already begun work on bringing the two Joãos back, after receiving the green light from Hansi Flick:
“We want them to continue for another season. Deco is working on it and we have the news that Flick believes they can be important. He already thought about them at Bayern. I am happy with the quality of Joao Félix, also with the admirable commitment of Ferran when he has not been injured, and with Lewandowski.”
