Barcelona have confirmed legendary midfielder Sergio Busquets will leave the club at the end of this season.
The 35-year-old will bring the curtain down on a 15-year spell in the first-team ranks at Camp Nou since his breakthrough under Pep Guardiola.
The Blaugrana announced on Wednesday that the veteran midfielder prepares to call time on a success-laden spell at his boyhood club.
Since graduating from La Masia’s academy ranks, Busquets has won a combined 31 trophies with Barça, including three Champions Leagues, and is on course to add a ninth LaLiga title.
In total, Busquets has made 719 first team appearances for the club, the third highest tally in history behind only Lionel Messi and Xavi.
He also scooped international honours as an integral figure in the Spain squad that swept to glory at the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012.
Playing alongside Andrés Iniesta and current Barça head coach Xavi for club and country, Busquets became widely regarded as one of the finest midfielders of his generation.
Fittingly, the trio are set to reunite when the Catalans face Iniesta’s Vissel Kobe for an end-of-season friendly in Japan on 6 June.
