Although their forward line of Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski, and Lamine Yamal was one of the best in Europe last season, FC Barcelona are still looking to further improve this area of their team, and for this purpose, the Catalans are looking to add another left winger.
For this purpose, they have been closely linked with the Athletic Club forward Nico Williams. Some days ago, there were reports that the Blaugranes have already reached a personal agreement with the player, with the length of his contract and his salary already agreed upon.
However, the latest reports in this regard show that this is not the case. This is particularly true for a report from Mundo Deportivo, which claims that negotiations between Barcelona and Nico’s agent, Felix Tainta, have stalled in recent days, mainly because of the demands of the latter.
The report reveals that after reaching a verbal agreement with the Blaugrana club, Tainta has been making high demands, which have caused concern and displeasure at the Catalan club’s offices.
The demand that is causing the most issue is the one for registration guarantees, with some very specific actions, which are currently unacceptable for Barcelona, especially as they were not discussed in the initial phase of the negotiations.
The difficulties faced by the Blaugranes in registering Dani Olmo and Pau Victor last season are creating doubts in Nico’s mind, who thus wants more guarantees.
For their part, the Catalans have given every possible assurance to the player that there would be no problem in registering him, which is still not enough for Nico. This, in turn, has also caused displeasure at the Azulgrana club, particularly after the player had previously shown full confidence in them.
Meanwhile, Athletic Club are also exerting their pressure, and in this regard, they recently met with La Liga to push them to closely monitor Barcelona’s FFP situation.
Similarly, Bayern Munich remain in contention for the player’s signing, and the Basque side would rather see the player go to Bavaria than join the Catalan side.
The Blaugranes were expected to pay his release clause this week, but for now, it remains to be seen how the situation of Nico Williams unfolds in the coming days.
