La Liga giants Barcelona have this week been dealt something of a blow on the transfer front.
This comes amid confirmation that the two leading suitors in the race for Iñaki Peña’s signature have all but dropped their interest.
That’s according to Diario Sport, who have on Tuesday provided an insight into the situation.
Goalkeeper Peña is of course widely expected to be on the move before the summer is out.
With Joan García on his way in at the Camp Nou, and Wojciech Szczęsny now expected to stay put for next season, the Spaniard is aware that game time would be at a premium in Hansi Flick’s squad in 2025/26.
Club and player alike are therefore on the lookout for a new home for Peña.
To date, the two sides credited with the most serious interest in the 26-year-old were Celta Vigo, and Galatasaray.
The understanding, however, is that both clubs are on the verge of securing deals for alternative shot-stopper targets, in Ionut Radu and Dominik Kotarski respectively.
This leaves Barcelona in a difficult situation, aware that Peña’s significant wage packet remains a potential stumbling block in any sale.
Valencia, on the lookout for a replacement for Giorgi Mamardashvili, though, could yet enter the fray over the coming weeks.
