Both powerhouse clubs in Europe, this final in Eindhoven was set to be something special and got off to an electrifying start.

Wolfsburg stunned Barcelona within minutes when Ewa Pajor caught the returning Lucy Bronze in possession and struck from range to break the deadlock.

It was the fastest-ever goal scored against the Blaugrana in this competition (2:57) and the ninth goal for the leading scorer this season.

Yet after the goal, it was all the Spanish side. Irene Paredes saw a close-range attempt stopped, Aitana Bonmatí’s shot was blocked, and Caroline Graham-Hansen couldn’t redirect a cross into the net.

Wolfsburg, meanwhile, remained remarkably composed in this first half and doubled their lead against the run of play after again exposing Barcelona’s open space.

Pajor added an assist to her name and crossed from wide to connect with attacking partner Alexandra Popp. The striker made no mistake from point-blank range and headed home for 2-0.

Youngster Salma Paralluelo then had a chance to pull one back but couldn’t poke the ball past Merle Frohms who stayed big to prevent the ball from finding the net.

An immense second half was needed to turn the scoreline around, and Barcelona clearly had a big team talk at the break, which ignited their impressive comeback.

Patricia Guijarro became the woman of the hour to signal that the Spanish club was still in the game and also one of football’s best squads at the moment.

She redirected a ball into the box for 1-0 before her header levelled things up in the blink of an eye as it was Wolfsburg’s turn to be stunned. Both goals were scored within two minutes.

The entertainment didn’t slow down as both sides continued to pile the pressure on with about 20 minutes remaining and the game begging for a later winner.

And flipping the script, it was Barcelona’s turn to capitalise on sloppy football, which saw them turn the final around completely.

Wolfsburg failed to clear the ball out of their box and it fell to Fridolina Rolfö, who blasted home into an empty net against her former club.

Nothing Wolfsburg sent forward was enough to find a late leveller and even with seven minutes of injury time, the German club could only watch the title slip away.

Two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas also made a cameo off the bench in the dying minutes before helping Barcelona lift their second title.
