FC Barcelona played a thrilling 4-4 draw against Atletico Madrid that epitomized everything that we have seen under Hansi Flick during his time at the club. The German coach has brought with him a clear set of principles and they are a double-edged sword.

Barcelona went 0-2 down within minutes of the game but showed incredible mentality to come back and go 4-2 in the second half. Just when it looked like it would be a good night for the team, they capsized and it ended in a 4-4 draw.

After the game, Hansi Flick earned criticism for the ridiculously high backline that he continued to deploy even when Barcelona were trying to see out the game. Atletico Madrid exploited the space behind it, which led to their equalizing goal in the dying minutes.

Now, as per SPORT, despite calls for more pragmatism, Hansi Flick, both literally and figuratively, is unlikely to take a step back from his brave tactics. He believes that football must be played in a certain way and the game circumstance doesn’t really matter.

The report mentions that this doesn’t necessarily mean that Hansi Flick is neglecting the defensive side of things. It is just that he believes his backline must play with the halfway line as their reference and will continue to stick to it.

Hansi Flick has apparently identified the weakness that Barcelona’s defense faces when the opposition attacks through the wings. It is actually something he saw in Xavi’s team last season and was evident on Jules Kounde’s side against Atletico Madrid.

Flick apparently feels Balde is well-suited to cover the threat on his side due to his incredible recovery pace, but he is looking to address this issue that Barcelona are facing. The report also adds that the German coach is unlikely to rotate much going forward.

The German coach wants to keep continuity as much as possible in the important run-in at the end of the season and unless the game absolutely warrants it, he is likely to have a preferred starting XI who would feature extensively going forward.

The likes of Pau Cubarsi, Inigo Martinez, Frenkie de Jong and Pedri add a lot to how Flick wants the game to be played and it comes as no surprise that they have been getting a lot of minutes in recent times. Let’s wait and see how the German coach goes about marshalling his troops in the coming months.
