After enjoying a very well-deserved few weeks of holidays, the FC Barcelona players are already back at work as they have started training to prepare for the upcoming 2024-25 season, in which they will once again be fighting for all the big titles.
Yesterday, on Sunday, the players reported to the Catalan club to undergo physical and medical tests ahead of the start of their training under Hansi Flick.
The Blaugrana club has also published two videos, totalling around two and a half minutes, of the players as they reunited at the club after their holidays and underwent their tests.
As Diario AS has noted, one of the most compelling images from these videos was the captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who appears briefly, for around two seconds, halfway through the first video. The goalkeeper can be seen greeting with a smile, which undoubtedly covers up his current difficult situation at Barcelona.
The German shot-stopper held a meeting with the coach last Friday, in which the tactician clearly told him about his situation. However, the goalkeeper made it clear that he intends to stay at the Catalan club and fight for a starting spot.
However, he is expected to remain in the headlines for the coming weeks and months, and it is well known that Flick is no longer counting on him, and Joan Garcia is set to be the starter for the next season, with Wojciech Szczesny being his backup.
Still, there have been no offers for the experienced goalie up to now, and it is clear that he is no longer enjoying as much demand in the market as he did some years ago. His age and the four surgeries he has gone through could have led to this drop in demand, while his contract, which goes till 2028, also does not help matters much.
The situation can worsen even further, as he can end up going through the pre-season tour of Asia without playing any minutes. But for now, it remains to be seen how his future will be resolved and where Ter Stegen will be playing next season.
