Barcelona secured an important victory against Atletico Madrid, with Joao Felix’s goal becoming the main difference.

The German international has missed three matches in a row owing to a back problem. While his knock didn’t seem very serious initially, it appears the goalkeeper could be out for a substantial period.

Ter Stegen could be out for 2-3 months

That is according to RAC1, which suggests that Ter Stegen has a problem in his back that affects his leg. He is expected to consult specialists this week.

However, everything suggests that Ter Stegen will have to be operated, as the German has not responded well to conservative treatment.

An operation means that the German international could be ruled out for a period of up to 2-3 months, which could serve as a major blow for Barcelona.

Are Barcelona well covered?

Fortunately for Barcelona, they have the position well-covered thanks to the brilliant form of Inaki Pena.

The young goalkeeper has stepped up his game in the absence of ter Stegen and has done an extremely good job in recent matches.

As mentioned earlier, Pena made an important save against Atletico Madrid. His form is a good sign for Barcelona ahead of the crucial December period.

Apart from Pena, Barcelona have young youngster Diego Kochen as the third choice. Kochen has been a part of the squad for the past few matches and is likely to continue in the same manner going forward.
