Following Xavi Hernandez’s departure and the appointment of Hansi Flick, an overhaul is expected to sweep through the ranks of Barcelona.

This process involves integrating new individuals into the squad while also bidding farewell to some of the existing players. It is a delicate balance that requires careful planning and execution.

Sergi Roberto, the team’s longest-serving player in the current setup, is anticipated to be hitting the exit door this summer with complications in a contract renewal yet to fade.

Roberto’s reign at Barcelona is coming to an end

Indeed, according to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have informed Sergi Roberto that they cannot register him at this time.

Roberto’s current contract expires on June 30 and a new offer is on the table. However, if he signs the renewal, he will have to bide his time, with the club setting August 10 as the deadline

However, the Spaniard cannot afford to gamble his professional future on this uncertainty. Sources close to him indicate that while he is willing to wait, his patience has its limits.

As such, he has yet to sign Barcelona’s renewal offer, as the specified deadline would be too late to negotiate his departure.

Roberto will officially become a free agent on June 30 and is coming to terms with an exit, as a career spanning over a decade at Barcelona is foreseen to soon come to an end.

The interested parties

Presently, the Barcelona captain is on holiday, awaiting updates. He has attracted interest from La Liga teams such as Sevilla and Valencia, and, to a lesser extent, Girona.

Meanwhile, FC Porto also reached out to Roberto’s entourage to explore the possibility of a transfer.

It remains to be seen where the 32-year-old ends up, but an exit from Barcelona is beginning to look imminent.
