Barcelona presidential candidate Joan Laporta says delaying the election puts at risk the future of Lionel Messi.
There is a push for the January 24 vote to be rescheduled for March, something that Laporta is dead against given Messi's contract expires at the end of the season.

He told Sport: "One of the things for which Barça needs a president and a board of directors, is precisely to be able to take the necessary decisions and thus present to Messi a concrete proposal that the club can fulfill in the economic field... and sporting.
"It doesn't help that polling day is delayed. The more time passes, the less it helps in the case of Messi and many other issues."
