Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick has on Friday provided updates on the wellbeing of four leading members of his squad.

This, of course, comes ahead of Barca kicking into gear the club’s 2024/25 campaign in a little over 24 hours’ time.

As part of the opening round of La Liga fixtures, the Blaugrana have been pencilled in for a trip to Mestalla, to take on Valencia.

This afternoon, boss Hansi Flick, in turn, took his place in front of the expectant media.

And front and centre in the exchange between the parties was the fitness situation on Barcelona’s squad at this moment in time.

The Catalans have been forced to contend with a whole host of fitness concerns leading into the new term, with Flick’s midfield having been hit particularly hard.

Safe to say, then, that all of a Blaugrana persuasion will no doubt be delighted to hear of some positive news stemming from the club’s camp.

This comes amid confirmation that Pedri, sidelined since suffering a knee injury at the European Championships, could feature in some capacity against Valencia:

“I am very happy to have Pedri back, he is a very special player, a player who can change the game. He will be in the team and can help us in the second half,” Hansi Flick confirmed.

Turning attentions towards Barcelona’s other sidelined stars, the German tactician had the following to say when drawn on Frenkie de Jong, and Ansu Fati:

“Yes, we hope to have them, but not so quickly. After the September break, we hope to have more players. We will have to see how they progress, but there is no concrete date.”

Finally, on long-term absentee Gavi, Flick concluded:

“I don’t want to put pressure on him. We have to take care of him. He has a career of 10 or 15 more years ahead of him. He’s doing well but he still doesn’t have a return date.”
