Barcelona president Joan Laporta is being increasingly encouraged to proceed with a move for one of Italian football’s leading tacticians.

The manager in question? Thiago Motta.

It is of course now common knowledge that the Barcelona board are giving fresh consideration to a change on the club’s bench with a view to next season.

Just weeks on from confirming Xavi’s continuity for the remaining year of his contract, the Blaugrana are looking towards alternatives to lead the club into a new era.

A whole host of tacticians, in turn, have been tipped as potential instillations in the Camp Nou dugout.

As alluded to above, though, one name in particular is being actively pushed by a number of those closest to Joan Laporta in the Barca boardroom.

As much was confirmed by Jijantes’ Gerard Romero during a live Twitch stream on Tuesday, during which the aforementioned Thiago Motta was highlighted as the coach in question.

Motta, for his part, is in the midst of a historic campaign in Serie A, which has seen the former Blaugrana midfielder guide Bologna to a place in next season’s Champions League.

And though Juventus are the current favourites to land the 41-year-old, it is reiterated that:

“People close to Laporta are encouraging him to make a move for Thiago Motta.”
